A new addition to Sharjah’s urban landscape is captivating residents and tourists alike. Named Al Hefaiyah, a sprawling lake was officially inaugurated on Saturday afternoon, marking a significant milestone in the city’s development initiatives.
Situated along the Sharjah-Kalba Road, post-Al Hiyar Tunnel, Al Hefaiyah Lake is strategically positioned to serve as a vital water reservoir for the populace while also contributing to the emirate’s ongoing urban expansion endeavors.
Measuring an impressive 132,000 square meters, the lake offers more than just scenic beauty. Encircling it is a 3.17-kilometer dual-lane road, providing visitors with an opportunity to leisurely stroll and soak in the picturesque surroundings. Additionally, a sprawling 620-square-meter play area caters to the entertainment needs of young visitors.
The inauguration ceremony, graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed the unveiling of innovative features incorporated into the lake’s design. Advanced technologies, including specialized construction materials suited for mountainous climates, ensure efficient water management, with pipes connecting the mountains to the lake for surplus water storage, rainwater collection, and runoff management.
With a massive capacity of 155 million gallons and depths reaching up to four meters, the lake boasts a sophisticated water conduit spanning 3.2 kilometers, facilitating the transfer of water from lowlands and surrounding mountains. To maintain water purity, three barriers and filters have been strategically installed to prevent contaminants and sediments from entering the lake.
Beyond the lake itself, visitors can explore an extensive 11.7-kilometer mountain trail, offering various paths of different lengths and difficulty levels. Notably, the Al Hefaiyah Lake project encompasses more than just natural beauty; it includes essential amenities such as the Al Hefaiyah Mosque, designed in the distinctive Fatimid style. The mosque, spanning 852 square meters, features intricate geometric and floral motifs, a towering 36-meter minaret, and dedicated spaces for worship, study, and ablution.
Adjacent to the mosque lies the Al Hefaiyah Rest House, spanning 500 square meters, offering breathtaking views of the lake and Kalba’s majestic mountains. With these additions, Sharjah continues to enrich its urban landscape, offering residents and visitors alike an unparalleled blend of natural splendor and modern amenities.
